FAQ

Hypnotherapy In Bedfordshire - FAQ

What is Hypnosis?

It is a pleasant, natural state of relaxation and enhanced awareness. It is a way of making contact with the unconscious mind, which contains both the source of many of our problems, and the means to solve them, with a vast reservoir of unrecognised strength and knowledge.

What is hypnotherapy?

It is simply the use of hypnosis for specific therapeutic purposes. This can mean shaking off old unwanted habits and limiting behaviours from the past, and replacing them with new skills and abilities. It is effective because it deals with the causes of problems, not just the symptoms.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

Yes, almost anyone can as long as they want to be. A hypnotherapist cannot force you into hypnosis against your will. Good hypnotic subjects are often of above average intelligence, and Hypnotherapy is certainly an intelligent choice for tackling your problems.

Will I lose control?

No. You remain in control and aware at all times, and will be able to hear and understand everything that is said. All hypnosis is really self-hypnosis, and it is not about someone taking control from you.
It is, however, about helping you take control over your own life!

Is it dangerous?

No. It is a naturally-occurring process (daydreaming is a form of hypnotic trance), and is perfectly safe. No-one remains 'stuck' in trance, and the only side-effects are positive ones!

Will I be forced to accept suggestions or say and do things I do not want to?

No. You cannot be forced to accept any suggestions that go against your morals or beliefs, and a professional hypnotherapist will not make such suggestions anyway.

Could I stay stuck and never come out of it?

No. The trance can be terminated by yourself at any time you choose, just as you chose to enter it. In the unlikely event that you were left to come out of trance on your own, you would either return to full consciousness in your own time, or enter a natural sleep and awaken as if from a pleasant nap.

Will it be like that stage hypnotist I saw the other night on T.V. the other night?

No. Clinical hypnosis is nothing like stage hypnosis. The stage hypnotist merely selects a few willing and compiant extroverts from a large audience by a process of elimination, for purposes of entertainment. Clinical hypnosis is a serious, confidential, one-to-one process in which you will be helped with your specific problems. Being made to cluck like a chicken will not be part of it!
